Culture at Riverwood College
At Riverwood College, we celebrate the vibrant diversity of our learners through a wide range of cultural opportunities. These experiences encourage self-expression, ignite creativity, and help learners connect with their own heritage as well as others’, fostering a deep sense of community and pride.
We believe culture is more than just extracurricular—it’s an essential part of who we are. Our programme complements academics and sport, nurturing learners holistically and giving them meaningful ways to express themselves, develop confidence, serve others, and explore their creativity.
Led by passionate staff, our cultural activities provide learners with invaluable opportunities to grow in the arts, faith, service, and practical skills, while building friendships and school spirit.
Choir
Our vibrant choral programme includes the General Choir, Cultural Choir, and Worship Choir, giving learners the chance to explore a broad range of musical styles – from traditional to contemporary. Performances enrich school life, inspire audiences, and instill teamwork, discipline, and a lifelong love of music.
Drama & Theatre
The drama department offers learners the chance to express themselves through the performing arts. Regular productions showcase talent both on stage and behind the scenes, helping learners develop creativity, stage presence, and confidence.
Dance & Funk
Learners explore dance during activity lessons and through the annual Funk Interschools Programme. This inspiring event brings schools together to create and perform physical theatre and dance theatre pieces. It encourages teamwork, creativity, and confidence, while giving select learners the opportunity to perform on stage.
Pom Poms
Made up of spirited senior girls from Grades 10–12, the Pom Poms Team performs at 1st team rugby matches, bringing energy, spirit, and pride to the school. The hours of practice also foster teamwork, commitment, and a strong sense of family among the group.
Christian Student Association (CSA)
Welcoming learners from all Christian backgrounds, CSA fosters spiritual growth through walks, camps, devotions, and fellowship activities – often in partnership with Scripture Union.
First Aid
Learners gain valuable medical emergency skills through training and real-world experience at school events, equipping them for both personal development and future applications.
Debating
Debating helps learners build confidence, think critically, and communicate with clarity. It’s a space where ideas are explored, voices are heard, and leadership begins to grow.
Land Service & Outreach
Grounded in four pillars -love for the Creator, love for others, love for the environment, and love for labour – Land Service promotes service and stewardship. Activities include gardening, environmental cleanups, tree planting, animal shelter support, and visits to old age homes. Learners also participate in camps and earn points for their contributions, encouraging leadership and active involvement.
Sound & Lighting Team
This hands-on club teaches learners the fundamentals of electricity, including house wiring, plug and light connections, and power consumption. It also gives practical experience in stage sound and lighting for school events.
Spirit Team
Bringing energy, pride, and unity, the Spirit Team plays a vital role at sports events and school functions. Their positivity builds school pride and a strong sense of community.
Art Club
The Art Club is a creative space where learners explore different artistic styles and techniques. Through workshops and projects, members express themselves while developing their artistic skills in a supportive environment.
ATKV
The Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV) is active at Riverwood College, with learners participating in events that celebrate and promote Afrikaans language and culture.
Environmental Club
This club empowers learners to care for the planet through hands-on projects, awareness campaigns, and sustainability initiatives. From recycling to eco-education, learners take action both on campus and in the wider community.
Marketing Team
The Marketing Team captures and shares the spirit of Riverwood College. Learners gain experience in photography, social media, content creation, and event coverage, building practical communication and digital skills.
