Boarding at Riverwood College
Founders House – Our Home Away from Home
Boarding at Riverwood College is more than just accommodation — it’s a home away from home. Founders House offers a safe, welcoming environment for around 80 boys and girls from Grades 8 to 12, where every learner is cared for, supported, and made to feel part of a close-knit family.
Our caring staff take the time to truly know each learner, creating a culture of belonging that’s built on honesty, respect, and love. From daily activities and medical support to a friendly dining hall that serves wholesome meals prepared by Capitol Caterers, boarders are surrounded by structure, care, and encouragement. Here, lasting friendships are formed, and every learner finds a place where they belong.

A Tradition of Care and Community
Boarding at Riverwood is rooted in history. The first Voortrekker boys’ hostel opened in 1934, followed by the official opening of Huis Jan Stander in 1986. In 1991, the decision to combine boys’ and girls’ hostels created the foundation for what is now Founders House — a co-ed boarding establishment that honours tradition while embracing the future.
Today, Founders House continues this legacy under the leadership of Superintendent Mr. Siyabonga Mkhize, supported by a dedicated team of boarding staff who provide round-the-clock care and guidance.
The Boarding Experience
Life at Founders House is structured yet full of opportunity. Learners enjoy:
Comfortable, supervised accommodation for both boys and girls
Nutritious meals daily to fuel active lifestyles
Supervised study sessions and academic support
Easy access to the school’s sports, cultural, and academic facilities
A strong sense of family, friendship, and belonging
At Founders House, boarding is more than a convenience – it’s an experience that shapes character, builds independence, and creates lifelong memories.
