Riverwood College Academics

At Riverwood College, we pride ourselves on maintaining high academic standards, guided by a team of qualified, competent, and deeply committed educators. Our approach is collaborative – class teachers, department heads, and our counselling team work closely together to ensure that every learner receives the support they need to thrive.

We see ourselves as an extension of the family environment, dedicated to the holistic development of each learner – academically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Academic & Counselling Support

Our counselling department is led by experienced Life Orientation teachers and includes two resident counsellors, available for both Primary and High School learners. These professionals play an important role in helping learners manage the challenges of adolescence, build strong interpersonal relationships, and develop effective study and life skills.

In addition, we maintain strong partnerships with tertiary institutions. Representatives visit the school regularly throughout the year, giving learners valuable exposure to future opportunities and guidance for making informed subject and career choices.

Through this integrated support system, we empower our learners to excel in their studies, prepare for life beyond the classroom, and develop into well-rounded, confident young adults.

Subject Selections

All learners are taught according to the CAPS syllabus, which ensures a broad and balanced foundation for future academic success. In accordance with this approach, learners are required to engage in eight core learning areas during the General Education and Training (GET) phase. This curriculum structure supports holistic development while preparing learners for specialised subject choices in the senior years that align with their unique talents, interests, and future career aspirations.
